:: About

The Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Headquarters Organization was set up 53 years ago in a small way for assisting the Railway men and their family members. Progressively with the passage of time the Organisation has widened its scope of activities and it is one of the foremost voluntary organizations in the South.

Education, Healthcare and Welfare programmes are our priorities.

Ashraya, a school cum vocational training centre, exclusively run for the mentally challenged children has 26 students and 07 vocational assistants on its rolls as on date. Ashraya offers individualized educational programme for the children from the age of six years upwards. The overall objective of this institution is to make these differently abled children as independent as possible. To achieve this objective, the emphasis is on self help skills, academics, pre-vocational skills and vocational training.

In promoting the welfare of women and children this Organisation is running a crèche named “Blossoms”, with all facilities at Perambur for the benefit of the working parents. The Crèche has been modernized with more space and lots of play materials for the children.

A retail outlet by name Swabhiman is functioning at Railway Hospital, Perambur. This retail outlet caters to the needs of the inpatients and their visitors.

As an expression of care and concern towards the Railwaymen and their families, every year on Republic day and Independence Day, the members of the organization visit the Railway Hospital/Perambur and distribute sweets, fruits and small gifts to the in-patients. Drawing and Painting Competition and Essay Competition organized by RWWCO is conducted every year for the wards of railway employees. Outstanding women employees are felicitated along with the winners of the Drawing and Essay Competition.
